Prototype Integration of BigBlueButton with Element Matrix Client

Matrix is a open messaging system that also support real time conferences. It is distributed and federates like email but looks and feels like a modern chat client. (+ encryption + video calls + widgets ...) This talk presents how BigBlueButton can run on top of the open Standard matrix and therefore become a full MatrixRTC application. We will showcase how BigBlueButton can be integrated into Element (A matrix messanger client) and how it even allows BigBlueButton to federate. This Talk will present the first time a video conference solution like BigBlueButton can interoperate with an entirely different app Element Call and participate in the same meeting over matrix. This not only allows to use different apps (for example dedicated mobile apps) but also opens the opportunity to use matrix state-of-the-art encryption in BigBlueButton with minimal effort.

About Timo Kandra

Timo Kandra is working at Element on the mission to build a standard for real time communication based on webRTC for Matrix. Decentralized systems like Matrix are very interesting to him. Timo finds building the infrastructure to allow independent collaboration very exciting. Most interesting is the vision to use matrix for more than just communication. VoIP solutions can be built on it but it also has phenomenal properties to be a back-end for distributed collaboration tools like shared encrypted documents. Besides his work, Timo studied physics and is very interested in game-dev & 3D tooling.
